Many indigenous cultures have more than two genders. In Hawai'i, these include käne (man), wahine (woman), and mahu, who are known to represent both. Born and raised in Hawai'i, Moses Lee has learned to embrace their mahu roots and remind us to look past this binary. As both a mahu and a drag queen, they enjoy the playful celebration of masculine and feminine energy, reminding us that feminine doesn't always have to be sweet and masculine doesn't always have to be cold. While embracing their cultural heritage and contemporary expression, Moses continues to create safe spaces for the Big Island's culturally diverse LGBTQAI+ community.
"When you look past your gender and explore every part of yourself, you will find no shame, only celebration." - Moses Lee
